We are very excited to have spent the last two days with candidates for the superintendent search in our district  and we are very appreciative of those of you who were able to view the forum in person ! If you were able to do so please take a moment to complete this quick survey, one for each candidate.  Your participation is appreciated!

Update July 8th, 2021 - Community Forum Invitation

The Seymour Board of Education invites members of the community to join the Community Forums for the Superintendent Candidates for the Seymour Public Schools. Each candidate will participate in a morning and evening session in which our executive search firm will be moderating questions from all areas of our community population.  The Forums will allow members of the public to hear the answers to the questions that were previously solicited from the community. Members of the community are invited to attend but masks must be worn by all in attendance. 


The forums will be conducted at the Seymour Middle School Auditorium with the Video Recordings released after all of the Forums have been completed with links posted on the district website.

Update June 14th, 2021 - Board Begins Screening and Interviews for Next Superintendent


The Board is moving forward to screen, interview, and hire the District’s next superintendent. The search firm and School Board previously reviewed the community input on screening characteristics and has been a guiding factor in differentiating potential candidates. There were many suggestions pertaining to qualities in instructional leadership, administrative capacities, and communication skills, as well as specific issues relating to the strengths and challenges of our district.  The Board has incorporated the feedback into its selection and interview process.


The applications for Seymour’s next superintendent closed on May 26th, 2021.  Below is a summary of what has taken place since the last update: 


  • There were 1,421 individuals who responded or were contacted by Ray and Associates, Inc. regarding the vacancy. The firm found that the major reasons individuals applied for the vacancy was because of the District size and location.  The candidate pool was represented by every state in the United States.

  • The top candidates who completed the application process were evaluated and screened based on constituent meetings, surveys, administrative experience, and academic background.  A comprehensive interview conducted by Ray and Associates shortly followed.

  • A thorough investigation of each candidate was made through references, state officials, other school administrators, and individuals who knew the candidate and his/her abilities and strengths.  Following these investigations, the determination of the best candidates for the Seymour Public Schools position was finalized.  This resulted in a pool of the top nine (9) potential candidates.

  • All nine candidates were telephoned and are still very interested in the Seymour Public Schools Superintendent position.


This week, the Seymour Board of Education and Ray & Associates will review the top candidates’ applications and make a determination on which potential candidates will be asked to move forward with a final interview within the next week.


Update May 21st, 2021 - Community Input on Superintendent Search Collected

The Seymour Board of Education would first like to thank all the members of the community who participated in the online survey and meetings over the past few weeks.  As part of the School Board’s search for a new Superintendent, executive search professionals from Ray and Associates engaged the community in discussions of important characteristics for potential candidates.  There were nearly 400 responses to the survey, 16 meetings with community stakeholders, and 4 community forums.  The ideas and issues discussed will help the Board determine which applicants to interview, and what questions to ask of candidates. Once a full analysis of the feedback is complete, a brief summary will be shared with the community on this page.

Several date-specific components remaining in the process have been set including:

  • Deadline for application submissions - Wednesday, May 26

  • Interviews begins  - Week of June 14

  • Interviews with final top candidates - Week of June 21


Update - May 3rd, 2021: Community Input for Superintendent Search Begins

Under the guidance of the executive search firm, Ray & Associates, the board has dedicated two days, Monday May 10th and Tuesday May 11th, 2021 to have the search firm hold constituent meetings with parents, staff, and members of the community.


On Monday May 10th the firm will facilitate meetings with teachers, school security, and the school district healthcare workers.


On Tuesday May 11th the firm will facilitate meetings with central office staff, principals, assistant principals, custodians, paraprofessionals, and town officials.

Update - April 12th, 2021: Executive Search Firm Hired

The School Board retained the services of Ray & Associates Inc., an educational executive leadership search firm, as the primary consultant to lead the executive search for Seymour’s next Superintendent of Schools.  

Update - March 1st, 2021: RFP Launched

The Board has begun the process for a Superintendent Search, beginning with the release of a Request for Proposal (RFP) for professional search firms.  The goal of the search firm is to:


  1. Supporting the Board during the search;

  2. Engaging the community;

  3. Updating and revising the existing leadership profile, as needed;

  4. Widely advertising the vacancy; recruiting and screening applicants;

  5. Facilitating Board interviews of the applicants;

  6. Conducting extensive reference and background checks; and

  7. Facilitating the pre-employment process

Update - February 1st, 2021

Seymour Board of Education begins the process of hiring the next superintendent.  During the board’s regular meeting in February, the board made a motion appointing its members as a search committee for filling the position of superintendent of schools, to begin with the 2021 - 2022 school year.
