Hello to the Seymour Public School Community,
As I begin my role in this position, I want you to know that I am truly honored to be your new Superintendent. There are so many wonderful things that already happen in the Seymour Schools and I am going to work with the Board, administrative team, teachers, staff, parents, students, and the community to build on that strong foundation for our future.
Allow me to tell you a little about myself and my background. I bring many types of educational experience with me to Seymour. I have been a classroom teacher (Secondary Mathematics grades 8 - 12), College Mathematics Professor, Assistant Principal, District Coordinator of Mathematics and Science and most recently as an Assistant Superintendent. I have worked in both private and public schools that range in size from small to large and while there, I coached various sports such as track, softball, and basketball. My undergraduate degree in Mathematics/Economics is from Fordham University. I then obtained a Master’s Degree in Mathematics Education from Iona College, and my Educational Leadership degrees (092 and 093) from Southern Connecticut State University.
I deeply believe in a comprehensive and quality education for all students. Seymour is known not only for its academic excellence and extracurricular programs, but also for the positive and healthy relationships between staff and students. I take very seriously that you have entrusted the young people of this community to our care and I am confident that our terrific staff will give their best day in and day out in order to achieve this.
Critical to all students’ success is the ability to maintain and grow a rigorous teaching and learning environment that provides every student with a sense of belonging while helping students to grow intellectually, emotionally and socially. My personal mission as your Superintendent is to ensure that all stakeholders are informed and take part in making sure that the educational needs of all children in Seymour are met.
I have truly enjoyed being a part of the school and community in the various districts where I have worked and I look forward to this here in Seymour. This summer, I will be planning a meet and greet evening and I hope to meet a lot of you then. I will also be meeting with Board members, Town officials, administrators, teachers, and staff to learn more about Seymour and hope to meet as many students, teachers, families and community members as possible. My door is always open so feel free to stop by or to call the Central Office to talk. Communication is paramount to success. Therefore, I will take advantage of the many avenues of communication to keep everyone informed of the great things that will be happening here in Seymour.
As everyone knows this is a time of many competing demands on the resources and finances of our public education system. We will all work together to be wise stewards of these resources for the benefit of all students. I am confident that together we will meet and overcome all of these new challenges that we are faced with.
Finally, I want to congratulate Mrs. Christine Syriac for her years of exemplary leadership of Seymour Schools. I wish her well in her retirement.
With great pride,
Michael Wilson, Superintendent
