Seymour Champions

Today’s Students - Tomorrow’s Leaders

August 13, 2024

Dear Seymour Public Schools Faculty and Staff,

Welcome back to the Seymour Public School District and the start of the 2024-2025 school year!

I hope this summer was both happy and productive, providing you with the opportunity to recharge and energize for the year ahead. Teaching is a noble profession that profoundly impacts the future of our Seymour community every day. You should be proud of your efforts and the meaningful work you accomplish daily. You hold the keys to our students' success!

This school year, I invite you to join me in embracing the Seymour journey, celebrating each child’s unique path. Together, we will work through our Vision of a Graduate initiative, which will guide us in developing our strategic plan. Our mission is to prepare all students with the knowledge, skills, and attributes required for success in a rapidly changing world.

I am truly delighted that you are part of our school community and one of our Champions!

For those new to our district, A champion has a vision. A champion dreams of things that have not been and believes they are possible. A champion says, “I can.”

As always, I welcome and value your positive energy and dedication to excellence in educating our Seymour Champions—today’s students and tomorrow’s leaders.

I am proud to call Seymour the “Home of the Seymour Champions.” We have an outstanding school system, and together, we will make Seymour Public Schools one of the premier districts in the country. I am looking forward to our continued partnership with our administration, staff, students, parents, and the entire school community to ensure we meet the district’s mission:

  • To know our students as learners.
  • To educate and inspire them through a range of experiences that reflect high expectations for learning.
  • To prepare them to meet the challenges of an ever-changing world.
  • To ALWAYS PUT CHILDREN FIRST!

While summer is often a time for relaxation, it is also a period of hard work to prepare for the upcoming school year. I want to extend my gratitude to our diligent custodial staff for making our buildings pristine and ready for the start of the year.

I would like to extend a special thank you to our dream teams, who have worked tirelessly over the summer to ensure our staff and students are ready for a smooth school year. These teams include our administrators, nurses, secretaries, administrative assistants, school security, and Central Office staff. Thank you for everything you do each day—registering students, preparing correspondence to parents, scheduling, ordering supplies—to ensure we are all ready for the first day of school. You are appreciated, and I am deeply grateful for your efforts. Your hard work ensures that every child in Seymour is prepared to start on Wednesday. I know I can always count on you. Thank you for a job well done!

A special thank you also goes to our IT department for their dedication during the summer, updating technology to keep our systems safe and secure. We know there’s a lot of work happening behind the scenes, and we appreciate all that you do.

I would also like to commend our lunch program team, Cindy and Jennifer, for ensuring that we are ready to serve every child on the first day of school.

Additionally, I want to acknowledge our town employees who have been working hard to prepare our roads for the start of school. They have been particularly diligent on Route 67 and Bungay Road, anticipating the increased traffic once school begins for our students and staff on Wednesday, August 28th.

To all of you, your commitment and dedication are heartwarming, and it is reassuring to know you always put our children first. Thank you!

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome Ms. Stephanie Ciccone, the new Assistant Principal of Chatfield-LoPresti School, along with the many other new staff members who will be joining our school community. We are excited that you have chosen to make Seymour your home—“Home of the Seymour Champions—today’s students and tomorrow's leaders.”

Please join us on Monday, August 26, 2024, and Tuesday, August 27, 2024, for two incredible days of professional learning. Both days will begin at 8:00 a.m. and end at 3:00 p.m. On Monday, we will kick-off with our convocation at Seymour Middle School, featuring a motivational address by our exemplary 2024 Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Katie Furino.

I am excited to begin my fourth year with you and to kick off the 2024-2025 school year together. I remain humbled and honored to work alongside such an impressive group of professionals in the Seymour Public Schools.

In closing, LET’S GO WILDCATS!

Warm regards,

Dr. Susan Compton, Superintendent of Schools
