Hello to the Seymour Public School Community,
I want you to know that it is an honor to be the Superintendent of a caring community that values education. We pride ourselves on being a Team and on working collaboratively together as a collective group including our Board, Administrative team, teachers, staff, parents, students, and the community in order to build a strong foundation for our future.
Allow me to tell you a little about my background and myself. I bring many types of educational experiences with me to Seymour. I have been a classroom teacher (Secondary Mathematics grades 8 - 12), College Mathematics Professor, Assistant Principal, District Coordinator of Mathematics and Science and an Assistant Superintendent. I have worked in both private and public schools that range in size from small to large and while there, I coached various sports such as track, softball, and basketball. My undergraduate degree in Mathematics/Economics is from Fordham University. I then obtained a Master’s Degree in Mathematics Education from Iona College, and my Educational Leadership degrees (092 and 093) from Southern Connecticut State University. I have also taken several classes towards obtaining my Executive Juris Doctorate degree from Purdue University.
I deeply believe in a comprehensive and quality education for all students. Seymour is known not only for its academic excellence and extracurricular programs, but also for the positive and healthy relationships between staff and students. I take very seriously that you have entrusted the young people of this community to our care and I am confident that our terrific staff will give their best day in and day out in order to achieve this.
Critical to all student’s success is the ability to maintain and grow a rigorous teaching and learning environment that provides every student with a sense of belonging while helping students to grow intellectually, emotionally and socially. My personal mission as your Superintendent is to ensure that all stakeholders are informed and take part in making sure that the educational needs of all children in Seymour are met.
My door is always open so feel free to stop by or to call the Central Office to talk. Communication is paramount to success. Therefore, I will take advantage of the many avenues of communication to keep everyone informed of the great things that will be happening here in Seymour.
With great pride,
Michael Wilson, Superintendent
