Governor’s 2024 Summer Reading Challenge and the Commissioner’s 2024 Summer Math Challenge

Governor’s 2024 Summer Reading Challenge and the Commissioner’s 2024 Summer Math Challenge

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Your children are invited to participate in the Governor’s 2024 Summer Reading Challenge and the Commissioner’s 2024 Summer Math Challenge.   These challenges stress the importance of maintaining skills during the summer.   It is essential that our students keep up with the skills they learned this past school year.  It is recommended that students read or participate in literacy activities at least 20 minutes a day, five days a week. In addition, they should practice their math facts at least 5 times a week for 5-10 minutes a day.  If your child is entering grades K, 1 or 2, it is still best for your child to read out loud to an adult. Also, remember that no child is too old to be read to; reading a good book with your child is a great way to spend some quality time together this summer.

Click on the attached links to find your child’s Summer Reading Journal and Math Log.  Have your child fill out the journal and log over the summer and return them to their teacher in August to be recognized at a town meeting for their participation.  A journal and log is also being sent home in your child’s report card envelope.
